We were married at Shambala Estate at Tambourine Mountain. We were looking for somewhere that was a combination of rustic and elegant. The Gold Coast hinterland also held a lot of special memories for us. Shambala had everything we wanted with its picturesque gardens and stunning reception room. We personalised it more to our vision by adding the Fig Tree installation overhanging our bridal table which took a few months to plan, and it really complimented the ballroom.

Theme of our wedding at Shambala

Our wedding was about celebrating the blending of our family and honoring our journeys that brought us together through grief and loss. This permeated our vows, the readings, the story of our ceremony and the sand ceremony that was an integral part of it. We were accompanied by our children in the wedding party to reflect the Union of two families into one.

Unique Moments of our day and our favourite moment

Greg:

My favorite moments were to hear our story reflected in the readings which elicited strong emotions from all of us, the authenticity and rawness of our vows, and to see the people we loved touched by our ceremony and enjoying themselves. And of course that moment when those doors finally opened and I got to see my bride walking towards me down the aisle.

Donna:

The unique moment of our day was the First Look photography prior to the ceremony with my Maid of Honour and our couple entourage, which were our children. We got to connect with one another in private, away from the guests and just be within our own individuality. Those quiet moments ay the Botanical Garden before the day started to become hectic was wonderful for me.

My fave moment: I got to connect with Greg when we saw each other for the first time as bride and groom for our couple photo time together, and still surprise him later in the day at the altar with my ceremony dress which was a different look to the first look / reception dress.

Advice for other couples

Enjoy every moment. Once the planning is done, try not to worry too much—trust that everything will fall into place. You’ve done the hard work, and now it’s time to soak in the joy. You’ll want to remember your day with smiles and laughter, not stress—and that feeling will shine through in your photos.

Also, give yourselves plenty of time. Everything takes longer than you expect—from getting ready in the morning to moving between events. Even the most well-organised schedule will run a little behind, and that’s okay. Be kind to yourselves and build in those little breathing spaces. They make all the difference.
