Elopement Wedding Venues

If you are planning to elope, the venue you choose shapes the whole day. Elopement wedding venues work a little differently to large reception spaces. Instead of catering for a hundred guests, the best of them do something more intimate, whether that is a ceremony with just the two of you, a small group lunch, or a long dinner with the handful of people who matter most. I am Adam, an elopement and wedding photographer across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales, and I have gathered this shortlist of venues that genuinely cater for elopements and small celebrations.

What makes a good elopement venue

A great elopement venue does not need a huge lawn or a grand ballroom. It needs to feel like you. When couples think about where to elope, a few things tend to matter more than size: a setting with genuine character or a beautiful outlook, the option for a ceremony only or a small group lunch or dinner rather than a full reception, somewhere relaxed enough that the day feels personal, and lovely surroundings for photos. Many restaurants, farmhouses and boutique retreats do this beautifully, because an elopement is really a wonderful meal and a heartfelt ceremony shared with the people you love most.

Frequently asked questions about elopement venues

What is an elopement wedding venue?

An elopement wedding venue is simply a place suited to a small, intimate wedding rather than a large reception. That might be a restaurant for a small group lunch or dinner, a farmhouse or garden for a ceremony, or a luxury retreat for a quiet getaway. The focus is on the two of you and a small number of loved ones.

How many guests can you have at an elopement?

There is no strict rule. Some couples elope with just the two of them and their witnesses, while others gather a small group for a lunch or dinner afterwards. Many of the venues above cater beautifully for small numbers.

Do you travel to these venues?

Yes. I travel across South East Queensland, Northern New South Wales and beyond for elopements and intimate weddings, so wherever you choose to elope, get in touch and I can talk you through it.
